Understanding Recount Text 

Hallo guys!! Kembali lagi pada blog saya. Jadi kali ini kita akan membahas tentang materi Recount Text. Apa sih recount text itu? Nahh untuk penjelasannya mari kita simak materi di bawah ini!!

Definition

Recount is a text which retells events or experiences in the past. Its purpose is either to inform or to entertain the audience. There is no complication among the participants and that differentiates from narrative. A recount text has an orientation, a series of events in chronological order, personal remarks on the events, and a reorientation that “rounds off” the sequence of events.

Purpose / function

The purpose of a recount is to list and describe past experiences by retelling events in the order in which they happened. Recounts are written to retell events with the purpose of either informing or entertaining their audience (or both).

Text Structure

·         Orientation

Bagian ini merupakan bagian pembuka atau pendahuluan yang berisi latar belakang dari suatu  kejadian, seperti siapa yang terlibat, atau kapan dan di mana kejadian tersebut terjadi.

·         Series of Event

Bagian ini merupakan bagian isi teks yang berisi serangkaian kejadian berurutan yang dialami penulis.

·         Reorientation

Bagian ini merupakan penutup teks yang berisi kesimpulan, pesan, kesan, atau perasaan penulis atas kejadian yang dialami.

Types of Recount

·         Personal Recount

Personal recount adalah salah satu jenis teks yang bertujuan untuk menceritakan mengenai pengalaman pribadi penulis. Personal recount adalah jenis paling umum yang sering ditemukan dalam penulisan recount.

·         Factual Recount

Factual recount text merupakan cerita untuk menyajikan laporan terkait peristiwa yang terjadi berdasarkan fakta (benar-benar terjadi)

Jadi, jenis ini tidak terpaku pada kejadian personal, bisa juga kejadian orang lain.

·         Imaginative Recount

Imaginative recount adalah teks yang biasa digunakan seseorang sebagai cerita dari perisitiwa imajinatif yang dialami oleh seseorang. Contohnya recount text yang menceritakan pengalaman penulis mengenai khayalan yang ia dapat dari mimpi.

·         Historical Recount

Historical recount adalah bentuk recount text yang isinya menceritakan peristiwa sejarah.

  

Kaidah Kebahahasaan ( Language Features ) Recount Text

1.      Using Simple Past Tense

Kenapa harus Simple Past Tense? Karena kejadian yang diceritakan adalah kejadian yang terjadi di masa lampau, jadi kita harus menggunakan tense yang berfungsi untuk mengungkapkan kejadian yang terjadi di masa lampau yaitu Simple Past Tense.

Pola kalimatnya terbagi menjadi dua, yaitu ada verbal sentence dengan rumus subject + verb 2 + complement dan nominal sentence yang rumusnya  subject + be + complement.

Berikut contoh kalimatnya:

Last week, my friends and I went to Jogja

(Minggu lalu, saya dan teman-teman pergi ke Jogja)

Went merupakan bentuk simple past tense dari go

2.        Using Adverb of Time and Adverb of Sequence

Adverb of Time (Keterangan Waktu) digunakan untuk menunjukkan masa lalu.

Contohnya antara lain :

·         Yesterday

·         Last week

·         Last month

·         An hour ago

·         A year ago

Sedangkan Adverb of Sequence (Keterangan Urutan) digunakan untuk menunjukkan urutan terjadinya kejadian. Contohnya antara lain:

·         First

·         Then

·         After that

·         At last

·         Finally 

3.      Using personal participant

Personal participant contohnya seperti I, my group, my friends, my husband, etc. Dalam recount text, biasanya personal participant akan muncul di bagian orientation sebagai pengenalan tokoh ataupun karakter dalam cerita.

4.      Using action verb

Action verb adalah kata kerja yang merujuk pada tindakan yang kamu lakukan dan bisa terlihat oleh orang lain. Verb ini dikenal juga degan dynamic verb. Contoh kalimatnya:

First, we visited Parangtritis beach

(Pertama, kami mengunjungi pantai Parangtritis)

Visited adalah kata kerja yang bisa terlihat oleh orang  lain.

5.      Using conjunction

Conjunction adalah bgian dari part of speech yang tugasnya adalah menghubungkan dua kata, frasa, atau kalimat. Contoh-contoh conjunction dalam recount text adalah and, or, until, although, while, but, and many more. Perhatikan contoh berikut ini:

One of my friends warned me that Samyang was very spicy,  but I didn’t want to listen to her.

(Salah satu teman saya memperingatkan saya bahwa Samyang sangat pedas, tetapi saya tidak mau mendengarkannya).

6.      Using adverbs

Secara sederhana, adverbs adalah kata keterangan. Ia memberikan lebih banyak informasi atau mendeskripsikan lebih detail dari kata kerja, kata sifat, dan kata lainnya.

Contoh extremely, carefully, slowly, etc. Kalau dalam kalimat, contohnya adalah :

She walked carefully

(Dia berjalan hati-hati)

Carefully berperan untuk menerangkan kata kerja walked

Text 1

Go to Seoul

I spent my last summer holiday in Seoul, South Korea. I went there with my friends. On the first day, I was landed at Incheon Airport around 7 AM after a 6 hours long flight. Then I went to Seoul by train and checked in to the hotel I already booked. I decided to take a rest for a while. At night, I went to Hongdae, a famous district in South Korea. I went to eat traditional Korean food. On the next day, I went to the Gyeongbokgung Palace and National Museum. I also went to learn how to make Kimchi and see the scenery of Seoul from Seoul Tower. I went back to the hotel at 10 PM and immediately went to sleep. I spent my last day in Myeongdong and bought some stuffs and souvenirs for my family and friends. I also ate the street food there. I went to the airport at 3 PM because my flight was at 5 PM. I had a fantastic experience in South Korea and made wonderful memory with my friends. It was a great trip.

Sample personal recount text

A Trip to the National Zoo and Aquarium

Yesterday, my family and I went to the National Zoo and Aquarium to visit the new Snow Cubs and the other animals. In the morning, when we got to the Zoo and Aquarium there was a great big line, so we had to wait awhile to get in.

After we entered the zoo, we went straight to the enclosure for the Snow Cubs. My brother and I were so excited to see them. They were so cute and playful. At lunchtime Dad decided to cook a bbq. He cooked sausages so we could have sausage sandwiches. My Mom forgot the tomato sauce so we had to eat them plain. In the afternoon, we visited the aquarium. My brother was excited to see the sharks and the tropical fish. At the end of the day when we left we were going to go and get ice cream but we decided we were too tired so we drove straight home, but of course I was very happy.

Sample  Factual Recount Text

On Children's Day in 1999, a technology company treated more than 200 underprivileged children to a 'high-tech' experience. They were given training on information technology. The company wanted to provide opportunities for these children to learn more about the Internet and the latest technology. They wanted to help the less fortunate in the community.

The children had an enjoyable and educational experience that day. They were exposed to the new technology for the first time and they were very interested. The company hoped to conduct many more such training sessions for these children. They felt that the skills the children had would be useful to them when they grew up.

The company was very active in caring for the less fortunate. They even put aside one day a year for their employees to do volunteer work to help the needy. They also donated money to many charitable organizations. Many people had benefited from their efforts. Many also praised the company for being so generous towards the needy.

Sample Imaginative Recount Text

The First Day Activities Of The Princess

Being a princess is never an easy task. That also applied for Princess Adelle. Her day was never easy. Her schedules had always been prepared beforehand by the royal assistant. She barely had any free day. Sometimes, even on national holidays, she got a schedule. That day was not very different.

It was the first day of 2017 and Princess Adelle was very tired because she was up all night, attending The New Year’s Eve event in the Royal Palace. Although she could barely sleep, she tried to wake up early. She woke up at 6 a.m. She should be ready before 8 a.m., so she washed herself and put on the dress that had been prepared for her by her assistant. After that, she had breakfast with the member of the royal family. At 9 a.m., she went to a charity event for the orphans held by several social institutions of the country. The event finished right before the time for lunch, so Princess Adelle enjoyed her lunch with the company of social workers and the orphan children. After lunch, she continued her schedule to attend the inauguration of a new public school near the palace. She gave her speech there mentioning that she was very happy to be invited to the event. She hoped that the new school would be able to help the students to be successful in the future.

Sample Historical Recount Text

Proclamation of Indonesian Independence

The Proclamation of Indonesian Independence  was read at 10.00 a.m. on Friday, 17 August 1945.

The declaration marked the start of the diplomatic and armed resistance of the Indonesian National Revolution, fighting against the forces of the Netherlands and pro-Dutch civilians, until the latter officially acknowledged Indonesia’s independence in 1949. The Netherlands declared that they had decided to accept de facto 17 August 1945 as Indonesia’s independence date. The United Nations, who mediated in the conflict, formally acknowledge the date of independence as 27 December 1949.

The document was signed by Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta, who were appointed president and vice-president respectively the following day.

Writing

Pada writing ini saya akan menceritakan pengalaman saya saat pergi ke Dieng 

Dieng

 Last February, my family and I went to Dieng to visit tourist attractions there. In the morning, when we arrived at Arjuna Temple, there was a long line, so we had to wait a while to enter.

After we entered the Arjuna Temple, we immediately took pictures in the temple area. After that, we decided to rest and have lunch. At the end of the day when we left, we would leave and look for another tourist spot, but we decided we were too tired so we headed straight home.
